Messi Named World Footballer Of The Year 2015

Messi reclaimed the award after watching his great rival Cristiano Ronaldo walk off with the prize for the previous two years.

The Argentina and Barcelona footballer Lionel Messi was named world player of the year 2015 at a FIFA gala in Zurich and claimed the Ballon d'Or trophy for the fifth time overall.

The Argentine, who finished ahead of Ronaldo and Brazil forward Neymar, had previously won it four years in a row from 2009 to 2012.

Messi helped Barcelona win a Spanish league, cup and Champions League treble plus the Club World Cup and also led Argentina to the Copa America final, where they lost to Argentina.

"It's incredible, much more than anything I dreamed of as a kid," said Messi as he received the award.

"I want to thank my team mates, without them none of this would have been possible."

Barcelona's Luis Enrique was voted coach of the year.

US World Cup winner Carli Lloyd, who scored a hat-trick in the final against Japan, was named women's player of the year.

Ronaldo ended last season without a trophy with Real Madrid although he helped Portugal qualify for Euro 2016.

Neymar won a treble alongside Messi at Barcelona but had less happy time with Brazil, receiving a four-match international ban after he was sent off during the Copa America.

Jafaru Isa, may have returned part of the money he allegedly collected from Dasuki.

Mr Isa was arrested last week in connection with the on-going investigation into the matter, in which prominent politicians in the country have been named to have received part of the money.
It was reported that the retired military officer, believed to be a close ally of the President, was released after he promised to return the remaining part of the money, claiming ignorance of the fact that the money was taken from government coffers.
Mr Isa is the first chieftain of the APC to be arrested by the EFCC since the beginning of a probe into the alleged diversion of $2.1 billion meant for arms purchase by officials of the immediate-past administration.

Charges Against Lamar Odom Drop, Said D.A

                   Lamar Odom
A report shown Lamar Odom won’t be charged for cocaine possession in the drug and alcohol-fueled binge that nearly killed him, officials said Monday.

Prosecutors in Nye County, Nev., where Odom was found frothing at the mouth and unconscious at a brothel in October, have decided not to file any charges against him.

The county sheriff’s office recommended charging him with “use of, or under the influence of, a controlled substance,” Nye County District Attorney Angela Bello told the Daily News in November.

But on Monday, Bello appeared to reverse course: "Based on the present evidence and surrounding circumstances, the Nye County District Attorney’s office has decided not to bring drug charges against Lamar Odom," she said.

"Although the evidence showed Mr. Odom had metabolized cocaine in his system while he was present in Nye County in October of 2015, he was not found in the possession of cocaine and it is unlikely it could established beyond a reasonable doubt he actually ingested, or was impaired by, the drug during the time he was within the jurisdiction of Nye County."

Prostitutes at the legal Love Ranch heard Odom snorting something in a bathroom attached to the room where they discovered him close to death Oct. 13, according to a search warrant affidavit.

Odom, 36, fell into a coma and didn’t leave the hospital until Wednesday. He’snow receiving treatment at a private rehab facility set up for him by his estranged wife Khloe Kardashian.

Metuh Drags EFCC, AGF To Court

Olisa Metuh, the national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has filed a suit before a Federal High Court in Lagos, seeking his immediate release from custody.

                                                             Mr Olisa Metuh
The Punch reports that on Monday, January 11, the PDP’s spokesman filed a suit through his lawyer, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, against the EFCC and Attorney-General of the Federation.

The EFCC had arrested the PDP spokesman last week in continuation of its investigation into the alleged diversion and sharing of over $2 billion meant for purchase of arms to fight Boko Haram.
The commission said Metuh had some questions to answer regarding some funds said to have been traced to his firm.
Adegboruwa asked the court for an order restraining the respondents from further arresting, detaining, persecuting, trailing or in any other manner taking steps that may jeopardise the liberty, freedom and life of the applicant except and in a manner permitted and sanctioned by law.
He further urged the court to make a declaration that the Respondents are not entitled to arrest, detain or in any other manner restrict the liberty of the Applicant without charge.
“Such is a flagrant violation of the Applicant’s fundamental rights guaranteed under sections 35, 38, 40 and 41 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 and Articles 4, 5, 6, 9, 12 and 14 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights 2004,” he stressed.
The lawyer also want a declaration that the Respondents are not entitled to demand for, seize, impound, detain, attach, forfeit and/or confiscate or in any other manner deal with the Applicant’s property and assets in flagrant violation of the Applicant’s fundamental rights guaranteed under the law.
In a 19 paragraph affidavit, Adegboruwa averred that Metuh had been the spokesperson of the PDP, even before President Muhammadu Buhari was sworn in and had functioned effectively in that position since March, 2012.
The lawyer claimed that on January 5, 2016, officers of the EFCC stormed the home of the applicant at Prince and Princess Estate, Abuja and arrested him without a court order and he has been in detention ever since.
He said: “I verily believe that the applicant has not committed any offence other than his principled opposition to the ruling government and his arrest and detention are meant to silence the opposition and create a one party state, by the respondents and allow the APC to dominate Nigeria.
“Nobody knows the present whereabouts of the applicant, as to his exact place of detention, his condition in custody and how he is faring.
“Recently, detainees in the custody of the 1st respondent have been dying due to lack of proper care and adequate medical facilities, and the 1st respondent is not normally well funded to function effectively, except to be used by the ruling government to hound the opposition,” he alleged.
No date has been fixed for the hearing of the application.

Donald Trump Asked to Apologise to To Ejected Muslim Protester

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, a leading Muslim civil liberties group, called on Trump to apologize.

"The image of a Muslim woman being abused and ejected from a political rally sends a chilling message to American Muslims and to all those who value our nation's traditions of religious diversity and civic participation," CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said in a statement.

"Donald Trump should issue a public apology to the Muslim woman kicked out of his rally and make a clear statement that American Muslims are welcome as fellow citizens and as participants in the nation's political process."

The group also mandated Mr Trump to “make a clear statement that American Muslims are welcome as fellow citizens and as participants in the nation’s political process”.

Rose Hamid’s eviction from the rally in South Carolina sent a “chilling message to American Muslims” as she was removed after making a silent protest on Friday.

Mr Trump’s proposed ban on Muslims entering the US had been widely condemned.
During the rally in the town of Rock Hill, Ms Hamid stood up wearing a t-shirt bearing the words: ‘Salam, meaning I come in peace in Islam’.

When she stood up, the crowd around her began chanting “Trump! Trump!” as they had reportedly been instructed to do in the event of any interruption.

Ms Hamid, a 56-year-old flight attendant, was then told by a security officer that she had to leave as she was booed.
