Ministry of Agriculture Says Youths In Agric Will Benefit From FG’s 2016 Empowerment

The Lagos State office of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) has said that youths in agriculture would benefit from the 2016 empowerment starting soon.

Mrs Abiodun James, an official of FMARD, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos.

James made the observation on the sidelines of the election of executives of the Association of Youth for Unity in Agriculture (AYUA).

She said that some of the members of the association had benefited from the FMARD’s empowerment and promised that with an updated data, other members would be contacted in the future.

Mrs. James assured that whenever the Federal Government has anything for the farmers, they will contact them because we have their data.

She said some of them have benefited from the ministry over the years, especially under the Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA).

“There was a time they were given fertilisers, feeds, seeds, people in aquaculture were given juveniles and feeds and those in the poultry business sector were given feeds also” she added.

AYUA’s President-Elect, Mr Temitope Odetola, who spoke on behalf of the elected officers, said that they would do their best to serve as examples to woo other youths into agriculture.

Odetola appreciated the state and federal ministries of agriculture for their support and appealed to them to do more as agriculture was becoming the main stay of the country’s economy.

The artist played the characters of falling for each other, despite the disapproval of her parents.


In a statement, Banky W underscored the need to fall for the right person adding that all a man need is a good wife material that can look after a home.


“It shows how far one can go to fight for the chance to love and believing that love is supreme.


In the video, Nollywood icon, Zack Orji and Onyeka Onwenu played the role of a respectable parent who didn’t want their daughter to marry due to tribalism.


Banky W said the video was shot in Lagos and was written, produced and directed by him for EME / TILT Productions.


Miss Kedike became known after she won the season three of the MTN Project Fame West Africa.


Aside from being an MTN Ambassador, she has also featured in more than 10 songs and she won the 2013 Nigeria Music Video Awards (NMVA).


She has also won the best Female West African Act in the song “Kekide” in 2012.


Aside being a musician, Banky W, established the Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) record label as a medium to get his music to his fan.


He has featured in so many nominations and awards where the bagged the best R&B singer in the male category, Best Music Video in the 2010 people Entertainment Awards.

Nigeria Customs Intercept Imported Ammunitions

The Tin-Can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted a 40 ft. container with 980 rounds of 9mm type live ammunitions and a pistol imported into the country from the U.S.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Chris Osunkwo disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen.

According to the statement, the Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Bashar Yusuf, said the ammunitions including a camouflage military face cap, camouflage belt, a pair of hand gloves and a pair of shoes were concealed along with other personal effects in two vehicles.

Yusuf said the arms and ammunitions and a suspect who was arrested in connection with the seizure, had been handed over to the Department of State Security Service (DSS) for further investigation.

The Officer-In-Charge of DSS at Tin Can Island Port, Mr James Udo, explained the danger such importation could have on members of the public, if it had escaped Customs’ attention.

Udo said that security must be a collective responsibility.

He said the DSS would conduct further investigation on the importation to unravel those behind it.

Meanwhile, the command said it generated N24.8 billion as revenue in January 2016 compared to N20.9 billion collected in the corresponding period of last year.

The controller attributed the increase to improved transparency, compliance from clearing agents as well as a robust electronic system.

Sacked SSS Spokesperson, Marilyn Ogar, Drags FG To Court

An online report shown that the controversial former

Spokesperson of the Department of State Services, Ms 

Marilyn Ogar, has sued the Federal Government before the 

National Industrial Court of Nigeria over her sack from office.

Ms Ogar and others were demoted and compulsorily retired by the FG.

The case comes up on Thursday 18 in Abuja before the NICN President, Justice Babatunde 

Adejumo. Those named as defendants in the suit are the Attorney General of the Federation,

the State Security Service (SSS) and the Director General SSS.

Ahmed Raji SAN who filed the suit on behalf of Ogar wants the court to 

nullify her sack and reinstate her with all her ranks, salaries and benefits. She wants the 

Court to set aside her demotion from Assistant Director to Chief Security Intelligence 

Officer.

Ms Ogar is seeking a Court declaration that her employment with the SSS has statutory 

flavor and same may only be determined strictly in accordance with the relevant provisions 

of the public service Rules.

Ogar through her lawyer is asking the Court to determine whether she is a public officer and 

whether she can be lawfully demoted, sacked or retired by the defendants.

Ms Ogar was promoted alongside 44 others in the twilight of the Goodluck Jonathan’s 

administration. But the Buhari administration reversed the promotions, citing irregularities

and breach of extant rules guiding such actions.

Ogar reportedly earned her promotion following commendation she received from former 

President Jonathan for doing “a fantastic job”.

Judge hits out at man's 90-lawyer defence team

A judge has criticised a lawyer facing criminal charges after he turned up to court in Lagos with a defence team of more than 90 people.

Justice Aishat Opesanwo described the approach as tantamount to "harassment and intimidation", a statement by Nigeria's anti-corruption agency says.

Prominent lawyer Rickey Tarfa is charged with the obstruction of justice and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

He denies both sets of charges.

Mr Tarfa is accused of blocking the arrest of two suspects wanted in a corruption case by keeping them in his car for nearly six hours on 5 February when they were due to be picked up by the authorities, according to a statement from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which brought the case.

In the second charge, he is accused of perverting the course of justice by communicating through his personal mobile phone with a judge overseeing a trial between the EFCC and two private companies which he was representing.

Mr Tarfa was granted bail at the hearing and the case has been adjourned until March.
